As your local Conservative Spokesperson, I am keen to ensure that you and your neighbours’ concerns are effectively represented and, where possible, addressed.
On a recent walk around the ward, I spotted that a number of paving stones situated outside the Third Age Centre looked in need of some attention. As a result, I have reported this matter to the Council. Furthermore, it was noted that Liverpool Street was missing its own street sign! This too has been reported for action and I hope that a new sign will be in position shortly.

St Mary’s Leisure Centre
Following pressure by the Conservatives, vital maintenance works are now being undertaken to this important local facility in order to ensure it can remain open for use. The centre is currently closed whilst these crucial works are being undertaken and will be open again to the public on 8 January 2007.
A special ceremony following these improvement works is due to take place on 20 January 2007. I will be there and I hope that many of you will be too.
As part of my work for the area and recognising its importance for a range of reasons (health, well being, social etc), I will look to ensure that leisure services in the area continue to be presented with a positive and bright future.

The Royal South Hants Hospital – Its Future
Many of you may be aware that future plans are being progressed for the redevelopment of the Royal South Hants Hospital. These proposals would see this site transformed into a new health facility offering the following services:
Acute mental health unit
Treatment Centre
Integrated Care Centre
Teaching and training facilities
Importantly, there is a meeting scheduled for the 31 January 2007 at which members of the community will be welcome to attend and to quiz a selected panel on these future plans.
It is my understanding that emphasis is being placed on ensuring that this becomes a community hospital, which is not separated in any way from the local community.
In this case, it will be vital that as many interested residents and representatives from the area attend. I will be there, so I look forward to seeing and meeting as many of you as possible.

Public Art – A Sorry State
Whilst on a recent walk about in the ward, I spotted that the items of public art previously situated to the side of the Gurdwara in Cranberry Avenue had been removed.
I eventually discovered that these items were chained together and hidden away from public view gathering rust. As a party, the Conservatives are extremely keen on ensuring the creation of attractive and positive environments in which to live and work and we appreciate the role that public art can play in this. However, I was disappointed to discover the location of these particular pieces, particularly given the work and cost that would have surely been involved in creating this originally.
I will, obviously, be raising questions with the Council over this matter and the future for these pieces of public art.
This seems to add a further twist to the art matters in Southampton following the recent investigations undertaken by my colleague and Freemantle ward member, Councillor Jeremy Moulton.

Welcome to the Bevois blog!
Hi and welcome to my blog where I plan to write about political issues of interest to residents in Southamton and especially Bevois where I have been selected to fight the seat for the Conservatives in May 2007.
